Diversified Agriculture Support Project (DASP) - Diversified Agriculture Support Project (DASP) phase-I started in September, 1998 and successfully completed on 31.03.2004 with the objective to accelerate the trends of diversification with the financial assistance from the World Bank to intensify agricultural activities through farmer's participation. .

Main Achievements

o Cropping intensity increased from 169% to 203% (1998 to 2003)
o Crop productivity increased by 10%
o Percentage of farmers using organic manures went up from 13% to 44%
o ATMA model first time used in State through project.
o Agriculture Management Centre was established at IIM, Lucknow with project corpus fund.
o Successful participatory processes were established in project formulation, implementation & monitoring with active participation of Government, Non Government Organizations & Farmers.
o 2728 Kms of rural roads were constructed under the project.
o UP’s Panchayati Raj department mainstreamed the upgrading of rural haats along the DASP model through a State wide program.
o Implementation completion report of World Bank rated the project as Satisfactory.

DASP-II was started on 27.11.2007 by State Govt. fund and later on funded by funded RKVY and this project was completed on 31.03.2013.

Main Achievements

o Geographical Indications for “Surkha Guava” was registered on 13.02.2006 with the help of UPDASP which is first G.I. in Agriculture Sector of U. P. “Kala Namak Rice” was registered recently on 09.09.2013 while “Rataul Mango” registration is in process.
o ISO/HACCP certification has been awarded to four major dairies (Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad and Faizabad).
o Introduction of Hybrid Paddy seed and SRI techniques demonstrated on large scale.
o Private Sector Nurseries in Vegetables and Tissue Culture Banana were promoted in the project.
o Income generation activities for landless farmers were introduced.
o Paravets trained 1478for first aid and AI services.

PCU UPDASP has been nominated as Nodal Agency for agriculture diversification in the State vide G.O. No. 839/le/-73-2014 dated 16.06.2014.

Crop Diversification Plan

General Introduction:

Western Uttar Pradesh Crop Diversification Plan was sanctioned by the Central Government & its implementation & Monitoring is currently being carried out by the Project Coordination Unit, PCU, UPDASP, Lucknow.

Utility of the Plan:

Extensive exploitation of underground water has led to a situation wherein the ground level is receding at an alarming rate. As per the report released for the year 2009 out of the total 170 Blocks of 18 districts of western Uttar Pradesh, 42 have been categorized as Over exploited, 02 categorized as Critical and 24 as Semi critical.In case the status of exploitation of underground water continues to be the same then it can be foreseen that there shall be shortage of drinking water in the near future. This plan has been prepared with the objective to promote non water guzzling crops or crops that need less of water & replace water guzzling crops with them.

Objective of the Plan:

The main objective of the plan is to replace the area under water guzzling crops especially Paddy with crops that use less of water example: Urd, KharifMoong and Poplar under Agro Forestry. Thus farmers belonging to any socio/ economic strata & irrespective of the land holding available with them, who are keen to replace Paddy with other crops are eligible to be benefitted under the plan.

Maize, KharifUrd, KharifMoong Bean, Arhar and Inter-cropping with Poplar together with Poplar Plantation

SaharanpurSaharanpur, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli.
MeerutMeerut, Bulandshahar, Ghaziabad, Baghpat and Hapur.
BareillyBareilly, Shahjehanpur, Pilibhit And Badayun.
MoradabadMoradabad, Amroha, Bijnor, Rampur and Sambhal.

All the Blocks of the aforementioned districts have been covered for the implementation of the Plan.

Eligibility criteria for the Beneficiary:

Farmers who are keen to replace Paddy with the crops so chosen & had Paddy on their field during last year are eligible to be benefitted.

Financial Aid:

The plan has provision for providing assistance for the critical inputs and other aid so as to promote replacement of paddy with other crops. The details follow:
